“Alone, the words are ordinary. But when you tie them together, something magical happens.”

It all started when a 17-year-old kid left his home in Tehran, just months ahead of the Iranian Revolution. The kid washed dishes in a restaurant, cleaned machines working the nightshift of a gym, and learned to speak English at the 
same time.

Our story

The kid, with his passion to design, create, build and tinker grew into an entrepreneur with a vision for a very different kind of health club.

He imagined driving up to an immense facility on generous acreage, arriving to a sprawling community that had swimming pools and tennis courts.

Going inside, he heard music pulsing in studios, people sweating and laughing, enjoying their workouts.

He thought about Saturday mornings and families arriving for swimming lessons, staying for lunch, then spending the day.

The goal of starting Life Time was to build a company that would have an impact on the way people lived their lives and thought about health. Today we continue to grow as both a place, and a platform where happiness is championed, relationships are valued, and lives change.

It was designed with the intention to impact the world by contributing to healthy people, healthy planet, and a healthy way of life.

Today that original vision has become over 175 athletic country clubs across the country and Canada and more than 1.5 million members who turn to us to help them reach their healthy-living goals.

With a member-centric point of view guiding us, we’ve innovated and led the way in the health and wellness category. Our comprehensive ecosystem delivers programs and offerings that provide something for everyone, from 90 days or 90 years old.

Like all organizations, we’ve had our share of ups and downs. COVID-19, for instance, presented many challenges, but it also came with an unexpected gift: When our physical clubs closed, we had to quickly reconsider how we were serving our members from afar.

The result was an app known today as Life Time Digital. All part of one thriving ecosystem that empowers people all over the world to lead healthier, happier lives.

From the first club in Eagan, Minnesota to almost 180 across the country and Canada, it was a conscious, curated experience from the start. 

Warm colors, natural finishes, and light invite you in. Granite and stone chosen even 30 years ago because of its sustainability qualities.

Every sense was considered: from soothing eucalyptus in the steam room to the warmth of the sun in the atrium. The sound of someone saying hello at the front desk. Both form and function create spaces that take your breath away.

The Roman’s coined an interesting phrase, “Genius Loci” which translates into the spirit of a place.  They recognized that while the materials and spatial relations could create an environment, there were certain spaces that seemed to have a soul.

The result the feeling of vitality as everyone together grows physically, mentally, socially, spiritually healthier. And happier.
